What these terms cover
1-bit Cloud is an optional service that hosts a private music library for you, run by Arsenie Coseac. These terms are the agreement between you and us about that service.
They do not cover the app. Used on its own, or with a bridge you run yourself, 1-bit stores nothing with us and we are not a party to anything you do with it. If you never create a cloud library, nothing here applies to you.
How we handle the data the service holds is described separately in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old to create a 1-bit Cloud library. Sign in with Apple does not tell us your age, so this is a condition you accept rather than something we can verify. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16 we will close it and delete its contents.
You need an Apple account to sign in. We ask Apple for no personal details, so we receive an account identifier and not your name or email address.
Your music stays yours
We claim no rights over anything you upload. You keep every right you had before. We store your files so we can serve them back to you, and for nothing else.
We do not scan, analyse, fingerprint or match your audio against any catalogue, and there is no acoustic fingerprinting on the service. To fetch cover art and artist information the server reads the artist and album names from your files and looks those up — never the audio itself, and never a track title. That lookup is switchable off per source.
Your library is strictly private. There are no sharing features, no public links, and no way for another account to reach your files. Each library is stored as its own dataset and files are never deduplicated across accounts — your copy is your copy.
You can take it all back at any time. Every file is individually downloadable, bit-exact, and your library's web page exports your playlists, favourites, listening history and device names in a single file.
What you agree not to do
- Upload material you do not have the right to store — 1-bit Cloud is a private locker for music you own, not a distribution service.
- Use the service to share files with other people, attempt to reach another account's library, or work around the storage limit on yours.
- Attack the service or use it in a way that degrades it for others.
We may suspend a library that breaks these terms. Suspension stops the service without deleting a byte, and we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond and to export. Deletion is a last resort, not a first one.
Copyright
The service is a private locker: strictly per-user storage, no sharing features, no cross-user deduplication, and no scanning or matching of uploaded audio. Those are properties of how it is built, not policies someone has to remember to apply.
If you hold rights in a work and believe it is being stored or distributed unlawfully through this service, write to support@1-bit.app with enough detail to identify the work and the reason. We will look into it and act where the claim is well-founded, including suspending an account.
If we receive substantiated notices about the same account three times within any twelve-month period, we suspend the account. A single substantiated notice removes the item concerned and we tell you which item and why.
We do not currently claim the safe harbour of any particular jurisdiction's notice-and-takedown regime, and we are not holding out a registered agent. If that changes these terms will say so, with the procedure set out in full.
Storage, tiers and payment
The free allowance is stated in the app before you create a library. Write to us if you need more room and we will discuss it.
There is no paid tier at the time of writing. If one is introduced, existing libraries will be told before anything about their terms changes, and we will not start charging for something you already have without asking you first.
Availability, and what happens if we stop
This is a small service run by one person. We do not promise a particular uptime, and maintenance, faults and outages will happen. Your music is not backed up by us on your behalf — keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose. The service is a convenience for reaching your library, not an archive of record.
If we decide to shut 1-bit Cloud down, we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand. During that period your library switches to read-only: playback, download and export keep working, uploads stop, and nothing is deleted until the notice period has run out. We are writing that down because a wind-down commitment nobody can point at is worth nothing.
If we have to suspend or close the service at short notice for a reason outside our control, we will still do everything we can to give you a window to get your files out.
Ending it
You can delete your library at any time from inside the app, under the source's menu: Delete 1-bit Cloud Account. It asks you to sign in with Apple again first, so a stray tap or a stolen session cannot destroy your library.
Deletion is immediate and complete. Your files, the storage they occupied, your account record and every active session are removed. There is no grace period, no soft-delete and no snapshot kept behind — holding a copy of something you asked us to destroy would be the opposite of honouring the request. It also means it cannot be undone, which is why we ask twice.
We may close an account that breaks these terms, after suspension and a chance to export, as described above.
Liability
The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it — which is the ordinary position for a service at this price, and the reason the paragraph above asks you to keep your own copy.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
These terms are a first version and have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. They describe honestly what the service does and what we commit to. Where a formal legal characterisation is needed — governing law, jurisdiction, and the copyright regime that applies to a Swiss-hosted service — it will be added after review, and this notice will come out.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version will appear here with a new date, and the change will be summarised. Where a change materially reduces what you get, we will tell you before it takes effect and you will be able to export and leave.
