  1. 1-bit 1.8

    Steady State

    Point 1-bit at music folders anywhere on your device instead of copying them in, watch a real waveform of the track drift behind the progress bar, and open the album booklet. Plus “Appears On” for guest artists, optional offline caching, settings tuned to the DAC you own, and the largest fix pass since 1.0.

    • Your own music folders as a source — pick any folder on the device or an attached drive from Files and 1-bit plays it where it already lives, with no copying into the app and no new permission
    • Real waveforms behind the scrubber, drawn as a drifting field of dust that brightens with the music — computed offline by your own bridge, never on the audio path
    • PDF album booklets: a badge on the artwork opens the liner notes full-screen, on albums your bridge has them for
    • “Appears On” — the records where an artist is a guest or a session player rather than the headline name now show on their page, and guest-only names became searchable
    • Optional offline caching, both off by default — prefetch the next few tracks in your queue, and cache your smart mixes overnight; Wi-Fi and charging only, never cellular
    • A “for your DAC” card in Settings → Audio showing the recommended volume, resync and noise-shaper settings for whatever is plugged in (it advises, it never changes anything), and one adaptive app icon that follows the system appearance — gold in light, teal in dark
    • Bridge 0.1.8 supplies the waveforms, loudness and key/tempo analysis behind those scrubbers plus the PDF booklets, alongside a rebuilt admin console and one-command Docker

  2. 1-bit 1.7

    First Light

    Ask Siri to play your library, a Home screen of automatic mixes your own bridge builds from your listening history, and — optional and off by default — richer artwork and artist notes. Plus performer credits, a new DAC profile, and CarPlay recents.

    • Siri voice control — say “play [album, artist, or playlist] on 1-bit”, at home, on the Lock Screen, and in CarPlay; Apple handles the voice and the app plays from your on-device library
    • A Home screen of automatic mixes — Heavy Rotation, Drive Mix, Wind Down, an Auto Mix that sequences by musical key, and a time-of-day mix — generated by your own bridge from the listening history you chose to share (the v1.5 opt-in)
    • Optional richer metadata via Atlas (off by default, per bridge): higher-resolution square cover art plus artist biographies and album descriptions
    • Performer credits in track metadata, recent searches and recently-played in CarPlay, and a Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ profile
    • Bridge 0.1.7 adds Smart Mixes, on-device audio analysis (waveform, loudness, key and tempo), and the optional Atlas premium-metadata path

  3. 1-bit 1.6

    direct drive

    Browse and play straight from any UPnP / DLNA media server — no bridge required — plus a CarPlay reliability overhaul and an optional floating player.

    • UPnP / DLNA media servers as music sources: browse and play directly from a NAS media server or a Chord 2Go’s built-in library, with no bridge in the path
    • Server-to-renderer casting: tracks from a UPnP source play on a DLNA renderer, and the renderer fetches the audio straight from that server (2Go → 2Go works)
    • CarPlay, made dependable: steering-wheel pause/resume no longer reloads or restarts the track, resume keeps your position, and silent stalls self-heal
    • An optional floating dock & control deck (Settings → Appearance): a compact pill that expands into a full player without leaving the tab
    • Bigger, more capable Home Screen widgets with full transport controls, library grid polish, and a fix for an iOS 26.5 crash during PCM playback

  4. 1-bit 1.5

    the one with Chord 2Go support

    Play bit-exact to a Chord 2Go or any DLNA renderer on your network, back up playlists to your own bridge, and keep a private listening history.

    • Play to a Chord 2Go and other DLNA / UPnP renderers — the renderer fetches the audio straight from your bridge over the LAN
    • Optional per-bridge playlist backup, so playlists survive a reinstall
    • Optional per-bridge listening history, viewable on the bridge admin console
    • On-device MetricKit diagnostics that never leave the phone
    • Bridge 0.1.5 adds the DLNA / UPnP MediaServer that makes the Chord 2Go path possible

  5. 1-bit 1.4

    the one that goes in the car

    CarPlay on the head unit, offline downloads, an in-app log viewer, and an optional DSD-domain DSP chain.

    • CarPlay — browse, search, tap-to-play, and Now Playing on a real CarPlay app (DSD is hidden there, since DoP markers can’t survive head-unit playback)
    • Offline downloads to app-private storage, excluded from iCloud backup
    • A rolling diagnostic log viewer in Settings — stays on the device
    • DSD-domain DSP (beta): decimator, modulator, and volume stage that stay in the DSD domain
    • Bridge 0.1.4 adds public-mode hosting and CarPlay-optimised variants; deployment target moves to iOS 26.1

    the one where we forgot to change the codename

    Background library scans, classical metadata, a Listening Tips guide — and an easter-egg card that still calls itself 1.2.

    • Opportunistic background scans for big libraries — runs only while charging, idle, and on Wi-Fi
    • Classical metadata: composer, conductor, and work fields, so concert recordings group correctly
    • A Listening Tips guide collecting what makes the app sound right
    • Long-press a folder to play, queue, or append without leaving the browser
    • Bridge 0.1.3 adds a Library Inspector and server-side classical extractors

    1-bit is out

    The first release: an iOS music player that sends your music bit-for-bit from your NAS to your DAC.

    • Bit-exact PCM straight to a USB DAC, bypassing the iOS system mixer
    • DSD (DSF) played as DoP for native decoding on the DAC — DSD64, DSD128, DSD256
    • Library scan from an SMB share or the on-device Documents folder
